PATINES
Foundries casting bronzes for Winston Pike Art provide a wide range of traditional and non-traditional patinas. I prefer patinas which authentically reflect the many moods and stages which bronze may undergo through its own natural patining. Such include the following:
Jet black
Brownish black
Dark brown
Brown
Light brown
Tan
Palomino (Yellowish Tan)
Jade green
Oxide (antique) green
Golden (additional costs apply)
For my sculptures: “Mother and Child” and fragments of it, “Nursing Mother and Child” or “Mother and Child: Embrace”, I favor a “Golden Bronze” surface. This requires much more tooling and polishing and is more susceptible to corrosion left by fingerprints. But, despite its additional cost and restriction to indoor display, for me, it’s elegance and resistance to darkening make it well worth it.
Bronze casting and patining / finishing will be performed by the most experienced and reputable art-bronze casting foundries in the Portland, Oregon area. Winston Pike Art.com cannot be liable for eventual oxidation of the bronze sculptures or discoloration of patinas. Patinas will be applied free of contaminants, yet, human touch, detergent, humidity and airborne pollutants can adversely affect patinas. The best prevention is to avoid touching, keep in a dry area, and wipe periodically with a clean, soft cloth. For outdoor bronzes, wax and rub down regularly, lightly removing first signs of oxidation with rubbing compound, followed by waxing.
